Reviews
'Gill Lewis's Moon Bear is a moving and inspirational tale about a boy confronting bear bile farming.'
Martin Chilton, Telegraph
'This is Gill Lewis' third book. I loved the other two which were set in the UK and had environmental issues as their main theme. I think this one is the most challenging one for both the reader and the writer. It must have taken a lot of research to write and it makes me think of places and things that are very upsetting. It is so gripping that I could hardly put it down. It will make you angry, sad and sometimes happy.'
Lottie Longshanks, Guardian
'A book about loyalty, conservation and doing the right thing for your friends, Moon Bear is a heart-wrenching but beautiful read.'
Hannah Love, We Love This Book
'I loved this book and I think it is Gill Lewis's best novel so far. It is full of love and passion and I loved how one boy takes on the role of nursing a bear back to health and promising to set it free. I couldn't put it down.'

Little M, We Sat Down
'Best-selling Gill Lewis tells a hard hitting story as she opens reader's eyes to the appalling treatment of bears and their natural environment.'
Julia Eccleshare, Lovereading4kids
'Moon Bear is entertaining like no other book and I love this book. It is absolutely awesome and should be read by any person 10+. It is a fairly easy book to read but has a few hard words. It is a wonderfully descriptive book and has some brilliantly disgusting stuff in it. Read this book and you will feel like you are part of the story.'
Lovereading4kids, reader review
'Gill Lewis has a reputation for being one of the strongest voices in support of the natural world writing for children today and Moon Bear will cement that reputation further. She has a knack for storytelling, she can see things from a child's point of view, and her research is impeccable. Still better, the overall effect is inspirational. Three cheers for her, say I.'
Jill Murphy, The Bookbag
'Following Sky Hawk and White Dolpin, this compassionate tale of the relationship between a boy and a bear is the third novel from Gill Lewis exploring some of the unethical practises endangering animals around the world. This is a powerful, enlightening and deeply thought-provoking tale; yet Lewis's approach never feels heavy-handed or overtly judgmental, but instead demonstrates that change is achieved by an understanding of the cultural motivations behind these practises, and through sensitive re-education.'

'Here's a rare thing, a novel, and a first novel too, that opens your eyes, touches your heart, and is so engaging it almost turns the pages for you.' - Michael Morpurgo
'An edge-of-your-seat wildlife adventure that tells a very human story of friendship, discovery and an incredible journey. I loved it!' - Kate Humble
'This beautifully written, captivating book should be on everyone's bookcase and in every library. It is for us all - young, old and in between. For it is about us all, our human nature, about nature itself, and how we relate to the wild creatures who face survival challenges we understand so little about. The skill with which Gill Lewis tells the haunting story of 'Sky Hawk' through the eyes and feelings of the children and her delicate, yet vivid, description of the wild Scottish landscape is breathtaking. Poignant. Unforgettable.' - Virginia McKenna
'A perfect read for younger readers' and 'Wonderful debut novel, with a strong natural history element and lots of appeal to readers of Michael Morpurgo.' - The Bookseller
